About this artwork
I’ve always had a soft spot for India. There’s something about the energy of the place—the colors, the people, the chaos and calm all blending together—that stays with you long after you leave. “Indian Laundry” was inspired by one of those everyday scenes that somehow feel extraordinary. Lines of colorful fabric drying in the sun, women chatting and a kid peeking out playfully... it’s life unfolding in the most beautiful way.
This painting is about… those small, fleeting moments that often go unnoticed—but are full of character and warmth. The textiles, with their vibrant tones and flowing patterns, create a rhythm across the canvas, while the interaction between the figures adds a sense of story and connection.
It’s a large piece, full of movement and joy that brings a splash of color and personality to any space. For me, it’s more than a scene—it’s a feeling.

Michel Devanakis is a contemporary figurative painter whose work is built around the idea of the threshold. A state of inner tension where opposing forces coexist without resolution.
Born to Greek parents in Cameroon and shaped by a life across different cultural environments, his work reflects a sustained interest in boundaries. Between visible and invisible, private and public, control and emergence.
After more than two decades in graphic design and illustration, he turned fully to painting in 2013. This background remains visible in the precision of his compositions and the clarity of his visual structure.
He develops each painting through a process that moves from digital construction to direct execution. The result is a controlled balance between intention and unpredictability, where each image holds tension without forcing resolution.
Based in Greece, his work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections across Europe.
