About this artwork
What I aimed to do with “Yeay!” was to blend two distinct styles—comics and realism—into one cohesive artwork. The lower part of the piece, with its bold lines and playful vibe, draws inspiration from the world of comics. As you move upwards, the painting transitions into a more realistic style, though not completely finished. I intentionally left parts of it in an unfinished state to create a dynamic contrast between the structured and the spontaneous,…

For the top portion, I used oil paints to bring out the depth and richness in the facial expression, while the lower part was created using acrylic paints and markers. This mix of mediums gives the piece an eclectic feel, making it both vibrant and full of life.
“Yeay!” is an expression of that exhilarating moment when you’re so overwhelmed with happiness that you just have to shout it out loud. Whether it’s the joy of achieving something great or the thrill of a fun experience.

Michel Devanakis is a contemporary figurative painter whose work is built around the idea of the threshold. A state of inner tension where opposing forces coexist without resolution.
Born to Greek parents in Cameroon and shaped by a life across different cultural environments, his work reflects a sustained interest in boundaries. Between visible and invisible, private and public, control and emergence.
After more than two decades in graphic design and illustration, he turned fully to painting in 2013. This background remains visible in the precision of his compositions and the clarity of his visual structure.
He develops each painting through a process that moves from digital construction to direct execution. The result is a controlled balance between intention and unpredictability, where each image holds tension without forcing resolution.
Based in Greece, his work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections across Europe.
