About this artwork
In Esoterica, I explore the vertical fragmentation of the modern psyche. This work, a pivotal piece from my 'Beyond' series, functions as a visual inquiry into the parallel realities we inhabit simultaneously.
By deconstructing the composition into rhythmic, architectural tiers, I represent the figure—a 'digital native'—existing in three distinct states of being. While the imagery is sparked by my observation of the hypnotic, almost umbilical connection… the younger generation has with mobile technology, the narrative transcends simple social commentary.
I am fascinated by the idea that we are the first generation to physically exist in one space while our consciousness resides in another—a 'parallel universe' contained within the palm of a hand. Esoterica is my attempt to capture that metaphysical drift; it is a study of isolation in an age of constant connectivity, where the 'inner self' is perpetually filtered through a digital lens.

Michel Devanakis is a contemporary figurative painter whose work is built around the idea of the threshold. A state of inner tension where opposing forces coexist without resolution.
Born to Greek parents in Cameroon and shaped by a life across different cultural environments, his work reflects a sustained interest in boundaries. Between visible and invisible, private and public, control and emergence.
After more than two decades in graphic design and illustration, he turned fully to painting in 2013. This background remains visible in the precision of his compositions and the clarity of his visual structure.
He develops each painting through a process that moves from digital construction to direct execution. The result is a controlled balance between intention and unpredictability, where each image holds tension without forcing resolution.
Based in Greece, his work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections across Europe.
