This series is part of a larger set of portraits of Charlie Chaplin, in which I sought to reduce the painting to its bare minimum, allowing small clues to offer the viewer an experience of figure recognition.
Over the years I've exhibited works from this series, I've noticed that the subject isn't always immediately identifiable, and that brings me profound joy. For me, recognition isn't essential.… What truly matters is the level of emotion these works evoke in those who view them.
Goldstein, trained in graphic design and painting, uses personal, minimalist techniques that result in distinctive textures and colors. Through a series of brushstrokes, rollers, and his own hand, he creates expressionist works that play with shadows and challenge visual perception. The emotions captured on each canvas reveal his journey through identity, encouraging the viewer to feel, rather than understand, his deeply personal art.
