About this artwork
This portrait is from the beginning of my Iconic Portraits series. It's a figure I've painted several times, and while it's unmistakable, it always transforms under my gaze: each work reveals a different face, a new interpretation.
In this particular piece, the special feature lies not only in the emotion, but in the technique. It was created during a period of experimentation with new postures and resources, where I decided to combine oil, watercolor,… ink, and oil pastel on canvas. An unorthodox combination that would probably have shocked more than one professor at the academy, but which proved essential here.
When you think of David Bowie, this fusion of techniques makes perfect sense: a creator with a thousand faces and a thousand styles, capable of constantly reinventing himself in music. The work, in a way, reflects that versatility and irreverence, turning the heterogeneity of materials into a faithful reflection of his artistic identity.
