About this artwork
Amy Winehouse appears repeatedly in my work because her artistic energy has an intensity impossible to ignore. Her life, full of contrasts, and her presence, as powerful as it is vulnerable, create a magnetism that always draws me back to her.
When I paint her, I feel an emotional connection that runs through her story and seeps into the artwork. In this piece, I chose to distill that strength through a minimalist approach. I chose to show only… one side of her face to suggest what is missing, what is fragile and hinted at, allowing the viewer to complete the portrait from their own perspective.
