About this artwork
Amy Winehouse is a figure I constantly return to in my artistic practice. Her magnetism, that mix of intensity, vulnerability, and extravagance, transcends her personal story and makes her a unique artistic presence.
As I paint her, I feel a silent dialogue between her life, her persona, and the emotions that emerge in the work. In this piece, I wanted to reduce all of that to its essence. Minimalism guided both her features and the entire composition.… By showing only half of her face, I sought to suggest fragility, absence, and mystery, leaving the viewer space to fill in what is not shown.
