Whispers of Fire
In Whispers of Fire, from the Kinetic Passion series, gestural energy is presented in a more intimate and restrained register. The use of traditional red and black inks, applied in this case to the reverse of the canvas, an unprepared support, gives the work a distinct character: the colors become more opaque, absorbed, as if the material itself participated in the secret of the gesture.
The stroke, inherited from oriental calligraphy,… does not seek representation, but rather to embody an internal state. In contrast to the expansive brilliance of other pieces in the series, here the fire does not explode, but murmurs: a silent burning that dazzles not with its brilliance, but with the intensity of its veiled presence.
