About this artwork
This 30X24 inch acrylic on canvas painting depicts a solitary oud player. His full attention absorbed by the instrument cradled in his arms. Nagui dresses the musician in a tweed blue suit, the color contrasting against the green background. His Fez leans to one side , perhaps to the sound of the instrumnent. The man's gaze cuts a path beyond the canvas, deliberately ignoring the painter in favor of a deeper focus. A frown creases his brow, hinting… at a mundane worry that momentarily disrupts his musical reverie. Despite the furrowed brow, the posture of the oud player suggests a determined focus, his fingers poised over the strings as if on the verge of unleashing a melody.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Nagui's passion for painting blossomed during his college years. While pursuing his medical degree, he concurrently enrolled in the independent fine art study program at the University of Alexandria Atelier. This dual pursuit of art and medicine would profoundly shape his artistic perspective.
His early work quickly gained recognition. In 1973, he held his inaugural solo exhibition at the University Physician's Club, followed by another in 1975 at the prestigious French Cultural Center in Alexandria.
Upon immigrating to the United States, Nagui embarked on a career in psychiatry, a profession he believes has significantly influenced his approach to painting.
Artistic Practice: Nagui maintains a prolific output, annually producing a substantial body of work that includes medium and large-size paintings, alongside numerous smaller pieces and drawings.
