About this artwork
A woman painted in shades of white and gray reclines across the canvas, her gaze fixed directly on the viewer. Her eyes possess a knowing awareness, acknowledging that she is being observed. Her body splits the background into two distinct fields: one of rich, warm orange and the other of cool, vibrant green. She wears a colorful dress adorned with intricate geometric patterns of red, purple, turquoise, and yellow. Her figure is rendered in white… and gray, yet her dress is a patchwork of geometric forms that break up her solid presence. The geometric shapes of her dress echo the bold blocks of color in the background, creating a visual dialogue that emphasizes her role as both subject and object.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Nagui's passion for painting blossomed during his college years. While pursuing his medical degree, he concurrently enrolled in the independent fine art study program at the University of Alexandria Atelier. This dual pursuit of art and medicine would profoundly shape his artistic perspective.
His early work quickly gained recognition. In 1973, he held his inaugural solo exhibition at the University Physician's Club, followed by another in 1975 at the prestigious French Cultural Center in Alexandria.
Upon immigrating to the United States, Nagui embarked on a career in psychiatry, a profession he believes has significantly influenced his approach to painting.
Artistic Practice: Nagui maintains a prolific output, annually producing a substantial body of work that includes medium and large-size paintings, alongside numerous smaller pieces and drawings.
