About this artwork
Behind her, the shelves are crowded with an arrangement of empty green glass bottles in a diverse array of shapes, each catching the dim light to create… a translucent, emerald mosaic. On the bar top before her, an open bottle sits uncorked and hollow. The absence of movement and the lack of patrons transform the tavern into a still life of desertion.
The scene carries an atmosphere of finality, as if the world outside has ceased to demand her service. The emerald glow of the empty bottles suggests a ghostly remnant of conviviality, now replaced by a stark, monochromatic silence.
