About this artwork
I created The Inner Light as a reflection of the quiet strength we carry within us, even when life becomes layered, intense, or uncertain.
In this work, I explored the idea that inner light is not always immediately visible. Sometimes it exists beneath emotion, memory, and experience, waiting to emerge through movement, color, and texture.
I built this painting through multiple layers of acrylic, using my intuitive process to create a sense of depth,… tension, and release. The vibrant reds, blues, and luminous yellows move through the composition like fragments of energy, revealing and concealing one another at the same time.
For me, The Inner Light is about resilience, transformation, and the quiet force that continues to shine from within, even in moments of complexity. It is a work that invites the viewer to pause, look deeper, and connect with that hidden but persistent source of light.

« My paintings are reflections of my inner self, my feelings, and my emotions, as well as my love for colors, structure, movements, and harmony. »
Nena Lang is an award-winning contemporary abstract artist based in Vienna, Austria. Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, she works in a refined mixed-media abstract expressionist style, creating layered compositions that explore movement, memory and transformation. Her paintings are defined by rich textures, atmospheric color fields, and a balance between intuitive gesture and structural clarity.
With a background in theatre and cultural history, Lang approaches abstraction as both an emotional and architectural space. Before fully dedicating herself to painting, she worked in academic and cultural research, a foundation that continues to inform the symbolic depth of her work. She works with acrylics, pigments, mixed media and gold leaf, using palette knives and rulers to build tactile, layered surfaces. Circular forms and flowing structures recur throughout her work, evoking inner landscapes and quiet geometries.
