In "Dual Presence," I explore the silent, often overlooked dialogue between a physical form and its silhouette. This bronze sculpture depicts a solitary sheep accompanied by its own shadow—a reflection so distinct and tangible that it manifests as a second, ethereal companion. By transforming the shadow into a semi-flat, physical entity, I invite the viewer to contemplate the delicate boundary between reality and perception: the presence of the seen… and the persistence of the unseen.
This piece is a true testament to the "Art of the Foundry." Every stage of its creation took place under my direct supervision in my private studio and foundry. Using the ancient lost-wax casting method (cire perdue), the work underwent a dramatic transformation at 1200°C, turning soft, hand-sculpted wax into eternal metal. Designed to bring a sense of "The Anchor of Silence" into a modern space, the sculpture offers a substantial physical presence while remaining philosophically light.
Nerijus Kisielius, a master sculptor rooted in the Lithuanian classical tradition, harnesses bronze, wood, felt, and paint to bridge ancient techniques and contemporary stillness. His process revolves around lost-wax casting, where he transitions soft, hand-sculpted wax into enduring bronze forms—each piece embracing tactile textures and the narrative interplay of figure and shadow. Through highly symbolic sheep motifs and abstracted objects, his art radiates vulnerability, communal warmth, and a serene pastoral quiet, inviting the viewer to share in a sense of timelessness and the profound silence of fleeting moments made eternal.
