Artwork Title: Handscape: The Silent Dwelling
Series: Landscapes in Bronze
Description
The Architecture of Nature
"Handscape" is a conceptual bronze study inspired by the harmony between man-made structures and the raw elegance of the natural world. In this piece, I explore the silhouette of a house integrated into the vastness of the fields and the fluid lines of a lake. It is a meditation on how we inhabit the earth—not as separate entities, but… as part of a continuous, flowing landscape.
A Tangible Horizon
The title "Handscape" (Rankvaizdis) reflects my belief that a landscape is not just something we see, but something we feel and shape with our hands. By transforming a panoramic view into a physical, bronze object, I’ve given the horizon a tangible weight. The solid, geometric form of the "house" gradually dissolves into the soft, organic curves that echo the surface of a silent lake or the gentle slope of a meadow.
Nerijus Kisielius, a master sculptor rooted in the Lithuanian classical tradition, harnesses bronze, wood, felt, and paint to bridge ancient techniques and contemporary stillness. His process revolves around lost-wax casting, where he transitions soft, hand-sculpted wax into enduring bronze forms—each piece embracing tactile textures and the narrative interplay of figure and shadow. Through highly symbolic sheep motifs and abstracted objects, his art radiates vulnerability, communal warmth, and a serene pastoral quiet, inviting the viewer to share in a sense of timelessness and the profound silence of fleeting moments made eternal.
