About this artwork
This work captures tension and dark power with stark realism. The central protagonist, imposing and determined, embodies dominance and authority, while the female figures express rebellion and hidden strength. The intense colors and dramatic contrast convey a vibrant energy.
A theme dear to me, inspired by the circus. This latest version is the largest and most accurate in terms of the characters' psychology, and I'd also say the most beautiful.… The dominant male, in full tamer's uniform (but which could also be that of a dictatorship official judging by his attitude and vintage monocle), holds in check two far-from-tamed females, who in fact seem on the verge of overpowering him, and with particular ferocity.
The irony of the dominating macho man at risk of being trampled is underscored by the orthopedic prosthesis replacing a leg likely devoured by some "man-eater," a reminder of a previous "injury."
I was born in Italy in 1954. In Naples in the 1970s, amid university and social unrest, I worked as a cartoonist for trade union publications, but it was in Potenza in the 1980s that I began my journey into color, always with a figurative-realistic spirit. Since 1996, I've been in Naples and joined Esasperatismo, an artistic movement with which I participated in international events. In 2011, I moved permanently to Basilicata and rediscovered sculpture through my ceramicist friends. It's an old love, always postponed, but one I can now focus on. Now, in my final years, when urgency and ambition give way to idealistic values, I dedicate myself to my work calmly, taking care of the preparatory stages and taking all the time necessary to solidify ideas and concepts. And some may already recognize my signature in this. I live in Basilicata and work only on projects and commissions that deserve my attention and commitment. When I can, I honor artistic events everywhere.
