The work "Notched Wood Panel" is made from a solid ash wood panel from the Chiemgau mountains. All of the holes have been expanded to form bulbous caves. Drilling fields on both sides overlap inside the object and, due to the resulting breakthroughs, give it the typical lightness of an Olli Marschall hole object. The object can be assigned to both the "gentle traces of violence" series and the hole series, as the surface texture highlights the rough… incision marks. I sometimes hang the work freely in the room or garden like a mobile, and occasionally it is placed on glass fronts or white walls. The play of changing light gives the work a constantly new, versatile plasticity.
Olli Marschall works primarily with wood as a medium, occasionally combining metal and resin, and has a rich background in painting and sculpture. His technique is characterized by abstract, intuitive, and carefully planned processes, using tools such as chainsaws with virtuosity and drawing skills. His sculptures combine raw traces of work with harmonious structures and an innovative use of leftover materials. Marschall's works exude lightness, carelessness, and a childlike wonder, inviting the viewer to curious discovery on multiple levels.
