The oval, screen-like structure made of oak is a wall object, or rather a reverse-painted glass object, or perhaps a floating XL dreamcatcher weighing approximately 8 kilograms. This intuitively created work exhibits characteristics of my "Hole Sculpture" series, due to the thousands of drilled areas, some created with dental burrs. The oval shape provides a framework for intricate saw cuts and groove milling. The cut and milling marks are deliberately… placed. Hollow spaces and freely floating "material wings" are the result of the "saw's limits." The most delicate drill holes were placed in the thinnest layers of material. The result is an organic appearance reminiscent of insect wings. Although the work has existed in its current form for several years, it will only be considered finished with my decision to sell it in 2025.
Olli Marschall works primarily with wood as a medium, occasionally combining metal and resin, and has a rich background in painting and sculpture. His technique is characterized by abstract, intuitive, and carefully planned processes, using tools such as chainsaws with virtuosity and drawing skills. His sculptures combine raw traces of work with harmonious structures and an innovative use of leftover materials. Marschall's works exude lightness, carelessness, and a childlike wonder, inviting the viewer to curious discovery on multiple levels.
