A section of a large oak slab served as a blank for motor skills exercises. Here too, the silhouette and rough sawn structure are crucial for finding the shape. The decisive first intervention was to "hollow" the flat wooden wedge by sawing stitches on the side in the widest part. With this motor challenge there were inevitably breakthroughs on the front surfaces. These breakthroughs were brought into harmony with the existing texture. The lightweight… artifact is reminiscent of a prehistoric bone find. The name of the work refers to the countless, precise piercing processes with the “chainsaw brush”.
Olli Marschall works primarily with wood as a medium, occasionally combining metal and resin, and has a rich background in painting and sculpture. His technique is characterized by abstract, intuitive, and carefully planned processes, using tools such as chainsaws with virtuosity and drawing skills. His sculptures combine raw traces of work with harmonious structures and an innovative use of leftover materials. Marschall's works exude lightness, carelessness, and a childlike wonder, inviting the viewer to curious discovery on multiple levels.
