The work Bandverlauf is a section of oak that was first hollowed out with a chainsaw. In the second step, even notches were made in the opening to match the silhouette of the body. The designed outer shape finally received a continuous notch line that moves 90 degrees to the "inner notch". In conjunction with the wall thickness of the hollow object, regular light windows are created...that is, openings at the points where the notches touch. I call… this effect lattice openings. The outer notch is a total of several meters in length around the sculpture. This creates an "optical band" that defines the surface of the sculpture. Hence the title Bandverlauf. The object can be placed in any position on the wall. Even more beautiful - because it is more airy - is a free-hanging presentation on a transparent, 2.5 mm thick nylon cord. The work rotates like a mobile and plays with its lightness with the incidence of light.
Olli Marschall works primarily with wood as a medium, occasionally combining metal and resin, and has a rich background in painting and sculpture. His technique is characterized by abstract, intuitive, and carefully planned processes, using tools such as chainsaws with virtuosity and drawing skills. His sculptures combine raw traces of work with harmonious structures and an innovative use of leftover materials. Marschall's works exude lightness, carelessness, and a childlike wonder, inviting the viewer to curious discovery on multiple levels.
