A large, wave-shaped, curved section of panel from the middle of a mighty oak trunk, sawn with an 80 cm chainsaw blade. Until the panel was removed, countless stabs had been made along the cutting line at different angles from both sides. After the panel was removed, countless breakthroughs were found on up to three levels. The large object now only weighs around 25 kilos and can be placed freely in space - like a mobile - or displayed on the wall.… The back and front are equally attractively crafted. This work is also a homage to fine motor skills with the heaviest of tools. The fine cut texture and very thin bridges and surfaces are particularly attractive.
Olli Marschall works primarily with wood as a medium, occasionally combining metal and resin, and has a rich background in painting and sculpture. His technique is characterized by abstract, intuitive, and carefully planned processes, using tools such as chainsaws with virtuosity and drawing skills. His sculptures combine raw traces of work with harmonious structures and an innovative use of leftover materials. Marschall's works exude lightness, carelessness, and a childlike wonder, inviting the viewer to curious discovery on multiple levels.
