About this artwork
I wanted a blue dominant tone for this composition in homage to the great jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery.
Released in 1960 on his album "The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery", this piece has become a jazz standard.
The color blue is traditionally associated with the blues, both for its melancholic mood and its characteristic rhythm. In "West Coast Blues," Montgomery explores a 6/8 blues, which gives the song a tonal color that evokes both… a certain melancholy and a great softness. The "blue musical color" evokes introspective emotions and a relaxed atmosphere. The unusual time signature, combined with Montgomery's unique touch, gives the song a warm and intimate sonic texture, much like a soft, hushed blues.
Montgomery's music heard in my studio inspired these shades of blue.
I made a similar composition on paper ("West Coast Blues", 50X50 cm, 2024).

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
