This image was inspired by a photograph of freshly unearthed, 14th century, copper-alloy brass heads from the Yoruba culture in Ife, Nigeria at the Wunmonije Compound in 1938. I gathered a handfull of autumn leaves, dried them out and incorporated them into my usual "palimpsest" collage method. The result is a striking, chromatically cohesive marriage of tone, subject matter, history and arrested decay.
