About this artwork
In this work I dive into the depths of the unknown, the seemingly empty. Using analog black and white photography, I capture an isolated form floating in an otherwise unbounded, dark space. This piece is a meditation on existing, a play with contrast and abstraction that invites the viewer to reflect on the nature of being and the meaning of space. It brings an enigmatic energy to any room, an invitation to pause and reflect.

Paul Gross’ photographs have been extensively exhibited in both Germany and Japan. Within his art, he explores and expands the limits of classic photography. The relationship between photography and object plays an important role in all of Gross’ work. Using various techniques and equipment, including movement and exposure time, objects in his pieces can appear abstract and bizarre. Thereby the object loses its function as a “memory aid”, blurring the definition and limitations of the medium.
