About this artwork
Bright red steps lead to the upper floors of a house. With his work “Mittag”, Peter Knauer suddenly tempts viewers to take an almost intimate look at the lives of other people. No one is to be seen ... - but that is precisely why the arrangement of the situation - the open door, the light, the ambience - seems to make the presence of people clear. It's noon - time stands still. The muteness of the scenery and its motionlessness alienate the everyday,… allowing it to tip over into the mysterious. The meeting and simultaneous spatial separation of the warm light from the staircase and the cool light falling through the window on the left into the implied empty space redefine the situation. The stairwell, the steps, the window, the empty space are relieved of their banal function and radiate an irritating detachment.
« I owe the fact that I became a painter to my passion for aesthetics, the search for harmony in form and color, and my love for precision. »
Peter Knauer is an experienced artist based in Germany whose paintings have been exhibited nationally and in England. Through his distinctive geometric abstractions, he conveys traces of different times as well as aspects of the past and future expectations, playing into the present. In his artistic process, Knauer most often employs acrylics and collage on canvas.
