Provençal Mas near Cassis is a painting depicting a traditional farmhouse, sheltered by three magnificent cypress trees, their soft haze penetrating the heights of Cape Canaille in the midday heat. Enclosed by a stone wall, several buildings, and beyond, one might guess, a splendid courtyard, the atmosphere is one of abandonment, damage, sadness, and yet imbued with such a sense of shame that the mere sight of it immediately… compels one to make plans and claim the property as one's own. This work portrays a quiet, deserted environment, one that I cherish and that is a place of longing for, painted with the intention of spending one's life there.
