This work is inspired by the movie "Andromeda strain" translated into Spanish as "The Andromeda threat" directed by Robert Wise in 1971. Andromeda is a cubic-shaped artificial satellite that has fallen to earth. This satellite is contaminated with a microbacterial strain of extraterrestrial origin that threatens to annihilate the population.
This sculpture rotates by touch thanks to an invisible steel bearing that is anchored in the heart of the… cube. The work is supported by a metal base 0.4 millimeters thick and 30 x 30 cm. The work has a weight of 19.5 Kg.
The work is specially polychrome to imitate iron oxide and the relief is composed of an acrylic putty hand-modeled by the author on a wooden cube.
« If one thing is clear to me in those moments, it is that creation responds to my life, and my life responds to creation. »
Pin Vega is an award-winning painter, sculptor and photographer whose works have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Germany, Portugal, Belgium as well as in his native Spain. His Pictosculptures, as he calls them, are found in different collections around the world and have created a trend. His art brings to life the 'invisible forces of Mother Nature', using natural elements to produce a 'new natural reality'. Pin Vega makes and carves the supports and frames for his own paintings. He also makes his own paints by agglutinating top-quality pigments with water or different types of resins and incorporates mineral elements and scaled figures to oversize his work and make us, the viewers, feel like we are contemplating it like a God contemplating his creation from above.
