About this artwork
In the series FRAGMENTS, I continued my exploration of alienation and social distance begun several years earlier in ATTITUDES. I focused on the physical and psychological fragmentation of images, repetition of various types and the exploration of edge tension between elements inside the image as well as on its outside borders. My colors, particularly warm tones became increasingly saturated.
In this image I explored the tension created by a gesture… that is almost complete. Here the lower hand is almost touching the elbow. Is it moving away or approaching the elbow? The discreet psychological tension created by this type of edge tension (that I began to refer to as a “quasi”) intrigued me.
