About this artwork
The setting is the Brandenburg Gate as a symbol of German reunification.
In front of it, the quadriga—popularly known as the "Retourkutsche" (return carriage) in Berlin—appears as if out of nowhere, a feeling enhanced by the unreal inversion painting. The pedestal, with its suggested fragmented symbol of German National Socialism, suggests conceptual parallels to the ever-present and currently resurgent right-wing populism and nationalism.
My vision… is to bring this energy and power to life and to stimulate reflection on identity and change.
