Blue acrylic paint on yellow oil paint represents not only a color contrast, but also a material contrast, making the result unpredictable. How the watery medium will dry on the oily ground remains an unknown. Observing the process is a fascinating experience.
The blue figure enters into a spatial relationship with the yellow background. This level of relationship is exhausted, a tight affair that, sewn to the edge, leaves little room for maneuver… at the color boundary of the yellow surface. The spatial relationships can be described as near, far, narrow, and wide, and have a rounded feel. The winding paths and variety of forms invite the eye to explore and linger. The conglomerate enters into a different relationship with the remaining surroundings of the white paper, resulting in a picture within a picture.
