About this artwork
With "Phantom Bloom" I wanted to capture a fleeting moment – an instant, like a snapshot with a camera. Something that appears and disappears again, or is only subtly present and only shows itself in motion for a short time.
"Phantom Bloom" originated—like my other works—from a spontaneous emotional impulse, with the difference that I created this piece specifically for a gallery exhibition in southern Germany. This painting marks a new step in… my artistic development, which is why I would like to present it here as the first work.
Through layered textures of texture paste, Portuguese graphite chalk, and acrylic paints, some of which I made with pure pigments, I wanted to create a tension between presence and transience. The shadow gap frame gives the work additional depth and reinforces the impression of a floating, organic appearance.
Sasa Ley is a painter with an unconventional background, exploring a lifelong passion for color and the tactile joys of painting. She works primarily in abstract and occasionally semi-abstract styles, using acrylics, oils, pigments, structural paste and inventive materials like graphite chalk and salt to build rich, textured surfaces. Her art emerges intuitively, with color and form unfolding organically, evoking vivid, personal emotions and inviting viewers to discover their own unique feelings in dialogue with her expressive, color-saturated worlds.
