About this artwork
"Phantom Place" was created in parallel with "Phantom Bloom" for a gallery exhibition in southern Germany.
As with my other works, this painting also arose entirely intuitively. I wanted to capture a fleeting space – a moment between presence and dissolution, which is almost impossible to grasp. Like a brief impression that appears and disappears again – a fantasy world between water and mist, becoming and passing away, with this dual quality of… time.
Layers of texture paste, Portuguese graphite chalk and acrylic paints, some of which I further enriched with pure pigments, were intended to create tension between lightness and depth, stillness and movement.
Sasa Ley is a painter with an unconventional background, exploring a lifelong passion for color and the tactile joys of painting. She works primarily in abstract and occasionally semi-abstract styles, using acrylics, oils, pigments, structural paste and inventive materials like graphite chalk and salt to build rich, textured surfaces. Her art emerges intuitively, with color and form unfolding organically, evoking vivid, personal emotions and inviting viewers to discover their own unique feelings in dialogue with her expressive, color-saturated worlds.
