About this artwork
Opus XXIII – Hellenic Aegis draws inspiration from the visual and symbolic language of an ancient Greek shield, transformed into a modern abstract composition. Created on an 80 x 120 cm canvas, the piece uses a deep black foundation to heighten contrast and bring forward the luminous metallic details.
Six circular forms organize the composition, while the central sculptural element in modeling paste anchors the work with a strong emblematic presence.… Layers of copper, ivory, silver, dark blue, and turquoise-green metallic paint create depth and variation across the surface, while textured applications and subtle brushwork add movement and atmosphere.
The result is a painting that feels ceremonial, protective, and expansive — a fusion of ancient symbolism and contemporary abstraction. It invites the viewer to see not only a shield, but a cosmic structure shaped by memory, energy, and light.
