About this artwork
This picture represents a "fake cabinet" that at first glance has all the characteristics of a cabinet, but at second glance is not really functional. Everything is there, drawers, handles, lattice windows with mysterious contents, hinges, locks and hooks for closing. Everything seems to be somewhat clumsily put together from various found objects and materials and everything seems to block each other. This picture is mounted on a thick stretcher… frame to increase the three-dimensional effect of the picture. So it does not need a frame.
The appeal of this picture lies in its actually abstract composition, in which something recognizable appears again and again, memories are addressed through surface structure and plasticity, but these memories repeatedly fail in the attempt to create a coherent function.
The title "All-rounder" ironically refers to such an impossible self-portrayal
« I like art that combines old and new, is professionally made, has a sense of humor, arouses curiosity, makes you smarter, and which you never forget. »
Thomas Johannsmeier is an experienced painter and a draftsman whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Russia, the Netherlands, and France. In his compositions, classical portaits are taken out of their contexts and contrasted with elements of modern art, which consists of monochrome colors, graffiti, photos, patterns, or quotations from other images. Johannsmeier most often creates using acrylics and oils on canvas.
