About this artwork
The template for this picture is the depiction of the god of war Mars by Velazquez around 1641. Mars is shown here powerless and tired, in complete contrast to the conventional idea. My idea was that this picture should be forgotten, perhaps cut out of the frame, dismantled into many parts over time, soiled, painted over and destroyed. My picture represents an attempt to reconstruct this masterpiece as a whole, only poorly patched up with painterly…
