About this artwork
This large-format work is an impressive work of abstract painting that I created around 20 years ago using acrylic paints on paper. I applied the paper on which the painting was created to a canvas using a special technique, which was then stretched over a stretcher frame. This multi-layered processing gives the work a unique texture that emphasizes the material properties of the paper and linen.
The composition is dominated by vibrant shades of… blue, yellow and black that blend together in dynamic, almost landscape-like gradients. The subtle background in soft shades of grey and beige makes the powerful explosions of colour in the foreground stand out even more. The visible structure of the paper and the linen cloth underneath contributes to the depth and feel of the image and invites the viewer to explore the physical properties of the material as well as the abstract shapes and colours.
