About this artwork
I traveled to Paris and looked around intensively: This violinist on the Pont des Arts really impressed me. On the one hand, the cityscape behind him is magnificent; on the left you can even see the Eiffel Tower. On the other hand, I like the musician's posture. Even as a street musician, he takes great care with his clothing and demeanor. I can almost hear his music. In the water of the Seine, you can see reflections of the large trees along the… banks. Painting the wood of the bridge was a special challenge. I solved this by removing paint with a narrow modeling brush. On the bridge, as everywhere in this small painting, there are two layers of oil paint, creating optical depth and luminosity. This fine oil painting brings the vibrancy and charm of Paris into any room. The painting is on canvas, which here has a mat and is framed in a silver wooden frame.
« The process of color-sensitive, soft, slow painting contrasts with the speed and indifference of everyday life. I take part of my surroundings and make art out of it. »
The perception of Ulla Kutter's environment is shaped by the focus on disharmonious compositions and their aesthetics. The German painter portrays the broken, chaotic, and shining aspects of everyday life in the city. Through her images, she creates possibilities for different levels of perception. Kutter paints using the traditional techniques of old Dutch masters, using oils on canvas.
