About this artwork
Ulla Kutter painted a view of the sea off Mykonos with a few different ships.
The main purpose of the image is to depict the warm atmosphere and light over the Mediterranean Sea on a summer evening. The colors of the sunset and the many different shades of the waves come into their own in many glazes of oil paint. The very turbulent sea contrasts with the calm landscape in the background. The sunlight colored the more distant areas a soft, bright… violet. The painter accepted the depiction of the waves as a particular challenge. No wave is like the other, the color tones change everywhere. Reinforced by the underpainting in pink and turquoise, a completely enchanted and light summer mood is created.
