The picture shows a scene on the banks of the Main in Frankfurt. The painter was there on a very warm summer day and was very impressed by the beautiful big trees and the relaxed atmosphere.
The meadow is dry in summer and no longer green at all. People seek shade and rest or chat. In the background, Ulla Kutter has painted one of the typical river passenger ships. The main actor in the picture is the tree, whose branches reach across the entire… width of the picture. The tree trunk is painted in two layers of paint, one of which is a glaze, which gives the tree trunk different colors. The man leaning against the tree is obviously relaxed and content. It's an image of relaxation, an image of a legitimate afternoon break.
