About this artwork
My painting ‘Scandinavian Wintry Lake’ is based on happychildhood memories, a large lake where the children from my small nearby village used to go ice skating in winter. The winters were often hard in my part of Denmark at that time, snow and ice being our normal ‘companions’. No ice rinks for us - we relied totally on nature! My memories are undoubtedly a little tinged with fond nostalgia, too - especially as the lake was in reality rather treacherous,…
and one could never really be quite certain of the thickness of the ice…I still remember how the clean air was so frosty that one could almost, well, cut it with a knife, and at times certainly mixed with the sound of ice cracking ominously around us… But we were lucky most of the time! Painted on white canvas in cool acrylic colours it is a favourite of mine, and I hope it will one day find a warm, good forever-home with someone who is also - almost - able to share my feeling of the sheer thrill when looking at it.. ULLA💚
