Jade Syrup Pitcher is unique in my hollowware output. I carved it entirely from a solid block of British Columbia (Canadian) jade. A peridot gemstone, itself set in 14 k. green gold, was then precisely fit and locked into the jade by way of a sterling silver rivet. The process of carving was exciting as areas of luminosity and patterns within the jade gradually revealed themselves. The sides of the pitcher have been rendered as thin as 3 mm.… and become considerably thicker up through the spiralling handle. The rounded shape under the peridot is at the centre of balance such that the pitcher pivots in the user's left hand while being poured as his/her right hand lifts up under the lip at the end opposite to the spout. The asymmetrical design is one that I have always liked. It would be problematic to make in metal, so I decided to carve it in stone. Jade Syrup Pitcher took 296 hours to create.
