About this artwork
With this luminous and airy watercolor I created a study representing the square house of NÎMES, an ancient Roman temple dedicated to VENUS.
I tell the story of the encounter between permanence and the ephemeral. The monument, solid, historic, a symbol of culture or power, is treated in a spectral manner, like a memory or a vision. Passersby and cars are ghosts crossing the scene. It is the story of a fleeting moment in a place steeped in history.… I express a feeling of lightness, tranquility, and contemplation. The atmosphere is dreamlike, unreal. By dematerializing the massive architecture, I invite you to see beyond the stone to perceive the light, the air, the passage of time. I invite you to meditate on the memory of places. The touch of pink in the sky suggests a hint of nostalgia, of sweetness, a magical moment when the light of day shifts.

Born in Villeneuve-sur-Lot, William Marcheval is a polymorphic artist, moving from painting to computer graphics. He practices glazing and sfumato, approaching Impressionism with a touch of naiveté.
