A brave and reckless little nun walks through a storm and gusts of wind. Everything flies away around her: a fish out of water, bursting the veil of the unconscious that has become clear, the numbers of the watch falling, scattered like time itself. A crowned frog whispers the promise of a prince, a guardian angel watches silently, while dead leaves swirl, signs of the nascent autumn of life. The map of the heart hovers, fragile and true. When the… storm recedes, everything falls back to earth. It is now up to us to pick up the fragments and rearrange them, according to the order that lives within us, here and now.
Carole Perret primarily uses tempera on wood, a legacy of extensive training at the School of Applied Arts in Bienne and 40 years of advertising illustration. She adopts a figurative, naive, and precise approach, inspired by the Quattrocento, where symbolism, humor, and vibrant colors tell life stories. Through her mischievous little nuns, harlequins, and circus performers, she questions the harmony between appearance and inner being. Her works exude a childlike joy, a mischievous smile, and invite each of us to question our own inner freedoms.
