About this artwork
As a teenager, I discovered a secluded beach with some friends, accessible only on foot after a long hike. When we arrived, the space seemed entirely ours. In a spontaneous burst of energy, two of them started playing capoeira.
I was struck by the feeling of freedom and the strength of their movements, amplified by the immensity of the place. Years later, this scene came back to me in a dream, becoming the starting point for this work.
The composition… highlights the influence of space on bodies. The horizon line situates the scene in a shared and open space, while the circle traced by the movements evokes the space that the figures appropriate, between freedom, presence and shared energy.
Eduardo Sampaio, a Brazilian painter and draftsman, trained as an architect and visual artist, enriched by his experience in São Paulo and Paris. He adopts a contemporary approach while cultivating a deep connection with artistic traditions, mastering plastic principles and applying precise techniques to give form to tangible reality. Through his work, he evokes psychological tensions surrounding the human figure and its relationship to space, conveying a powerful emotional intensity about the individual experience in the modern world.
