This artwork is inspired by the face masks we have worn during the corona pandemic. Not only do we wear masks to protect ourselves from disease, we often wear an imaginary mask to hide our inner selves, to conceal ourselves. We women in particular are confronted with many rules of conduct. How we have to be and should be. Our own, real self is often hidden in order to meet these requirements. I made the petals of the mask from a blouse of my grandmother.… In her time, the rigid role models were much more pronounced. Nevertheless, they live on to this day and prevent us all from reaching our full potential.
