About this artwork
Much of my work is inspired by "primitive" pieces found in other cultures. The driving force behind this painting were reptilian (iguana) representations found in Oaxacan carvings. Of course I created my own patterns and background with an overhead POV and deep shadows. When completed this painting looked like this creature was in charge. Hence, I borrowed the Hawaiian term "Big Kahuna" as the title.
