About this artwork
This large painting represents an Italian square observed from the windows of a restaurant. Restaurants are often opportunities for meetings and more or less important memories that mark the relationships in our lives. The title refers to a famous film by Fellini which was entitled "Amarcord" or I remember. The composition is an important achievement of the painter's work because various subjects dear to him are present at the same time: the urban… vision of his city, Padua, dominated by bright blue colours, the internal environment heated by the warm and intense brightness of artificial light, the mirrors on the walls on which the atmosphere of the room is reflected, and finally the human subjects captured in the spontaneity of the convivial occasion, some in conversation, others taken by their own thoughts. It could be a subject dear to Impressionist painting and therefore the memory of French masterpieces is present, so the theme of memory returns indirectly.
« A mirror reflects a face and art reflects the soul. »
Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. He describes his works as fusing themes of the portrait and the human figure with suggestions of urban architecture and the landscape resuting in "portraits of places and landscapes of bodies". Ronga's painterly compositions are most often created with acrylics and oils on wood or canvas.
