About this artwork
The bird's eye view of the city of Padua frames a series of monuments that characterize this important city of art almost thirty km from Venice. In the foreground the civic tower of the elderly and the Palazzo della Ragione, where justice was administered in the Middle Ages, the system of three communicating public squares which for centuries have been the scene of the market, trade and fashion meetings, in the distance the clock tower, the cathedral… and the Specola tower, an astronomical observatory which recalls Galileo Galilei's stay in Padua. The large canvas captures the moment when the day comes to an end and the artificial lights turn on, transfiguring the colors of the city. The crown of hills of the Euganean Hills and the Berici Hills form the ultimate backdrop. The deep edge canvas was built by the painter and is also painted on the side, allowing the painting to be displayed even without a frame.

Marco Ronga is an experienced painter, draftsman, and sculptor based in Italy whose works have been exhibited nationally and in England. He describes his works as fusing themes of the portrait and the human figure with suggestions of urban architecture and the landscape resuting in "portraits of places and landscapes of bodies". Ronga's painterly compositions are most often created with acrylics and oils on wood or canvas.
