About this artwork
In this oil painting, I embraced the subtle light and shadow of an Italian evening to capture the serene atmosphere of the famous Boboli gardens of Florence. I chose soft colours and tones to create a sense of tranquillity in the scene, inviting the viewer to stroll through these historical gardens alongside the figures within the frame. I enjoy painting historical gardens and particularly Italian gardens because of the interplay of formal architecture--here…
the white marble balustrades and steps--and the natural plantings of grass and trees. Painting these features is a way of learning about them, absorbing their logic, and also appreciating their timeless beauty.
