Object and photography become one
A chair, left on the side of the road, is photographed one last time on black-and-white negative film, the material is shredded, cooked, chopped up and poured onto a fabric. The wood from an ordinary chair is used to create a 1.5 x 1.2 meter paper that is coated with photo emulsion and then exposed to its original size in the darkroom.

Paul Gross’ photographs have been extensively exhibited in both Germany and Japan. Within his art, he explores and expands the limits of classic photography. The relationship between photography and object plays an important role in all of Gross’ work. Using various techniques and equipment, including movement and exposure time, objects in his pieces can appear abstract and bizarre. Thereby the object loses its function as a “memory aid”, blurring the definition and limitations of the medium.
