Autonomy and attachment
This work deals with a tension that accompanies our entire lives: autonomy and attachment.
We need closeness to feel connected.
And we need distance in order to remain ourselves.
If proximity becomes too great, the autonomy system signals: I need space.
If the distance becomes too great, the attachment system signals: I need people.
We oscillate between these two poles our entire lives.
Not one after the other… – but simultaneously.
The two figures represent this subtle movement between connection and independence. They are close enough to perceive each other, and far enough apart not to lose each other.
The image makes visible what we all know – often without having the words for it.

My work arises from a fascination with ambivalence.
Trust-distrust, freedom-order, reason-emotion, closeness-isolation and much more, all at the same time.
This perspective stems from 30 years of experience as an entrepreneur and creative mind in my trade fair construction company, where responsibility, economics, structure and creative design and thinking were inextricably linked.
In my works I translated these tensions into images - decisively and openly to resonance.
I paint lived ambivalences.
